Parc de la Coupe du Monde

The World Cup Parks which were created in memory of the 17th FIFA World Cup 2002 were opened on 1 May 2002. The chosen location was Nanjido A landfill site where 92 million tons of garbage had been buried since 1978. The parks could only be opened after more than 6 years of work (garbage treatment, site equipment, clearing, construction of foundations. ..). They are all close to the World Cup stadium.

The Sky Park: This park is the one that is the highest. A hill where heaps of garbage had been piled up, was transformed into a hill of greenery with 22 belvederees enjoying a beautiful view of Seoul, Namsan and Bukhansan. Five wind turbines were built to supply the park and the park’s maintenance office with electricity.
